Reverend Dr. Bill Allport has dedicated his life to providing unwavering support and compassion to the seafaring community. As a chaplain with the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) since 2022, he has been stationed at the International Seafarers’ Center in Port Newark, where his mission is to offer pastoral care and crisis support to mariners navigating the challenging waters of the Port of New York and New Jersey. Reverend Allport’s ministry extends beyond the confines of the port, reaching key maritime hubs such as the Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Perth Amboy.
With an educational background in divinity from the Virginia Theological Seminary and a doctorate from the Fuller Theological Seminary, Rev. Allport is well-equipped to address the spiritual and emotional needs of seafarers. He plays a pivotal role in enhancing SCI’s chaplaincy programs, including spearheading initiatives like holiday services at the International Seafarers’ Center. His leadership during the center’s first-ever Christmas service in December 2023 marked a significant milestone in establishing ongoing religious gatherings for mariners of all faiths.
Beyond his spiritual guidance, Reverend Allport is trained in helicopter emergency response, enabling him to provide critical support for offshore workers. His dedication to mariner safety and well-being underscores his commitment to making a positive impact on the global maritime community. Through ship visits, pastoral counseling, and seafarer rights advocacy, Reverend Allport continues to be a beacon of hope and support for those who toil at sea.
